Petrol Holding AD was registered in 1995. The first name of the company was Yukos Petroleum Bulgaria AD. In 1999, as a participant in an open auction, Yukos Petroleum gained 51% of the state company Petrol. At that time the international company Naftex bought all foreign associations owned by Yukos and thus created Naftex Bulgaria Holding. In 2004 the Holding accepted the name of its biggest filial association and became Petrol Holding.

Today Petrol Holding is one of the largest companies in Bulgaria in terms of sales with assets in oil products distribution and related activities, financial services, telecoms, general aviation, beverages, media, leisure, real estate. Still, the main business of the company is the retail and wholesale distribution of oil products.
